Television presenter-turned-actor
Govind Padmasoorya seems to have found his footing in Tollywood. The Malayali actor, who debuted with the 2020 film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (ALVP), recently played a character with shades of grey in
Bangarraju. “I was told that people who score hits during
Sankranti will get extra love from the audience, and that seems evident. They released both my Telugu films for the festival, and when I went to Rajahmundry to promote my latest release, I received so much love.
I was even surprised to see fans chasing my car; I feel truly blessed,” says Padmasoorya or GP, as he’s fondly known.
If in ALVP he played the suave Paidithalli, in Bangarraju, he played a villager called Aadi — both cunning characters. “Playing Paidithalli was truly a game-changing moment in my career. I was showered with numerous offers, but I didn’t want to grab everything that came my way,” he explains, adding, “However, when the first lockdown took place just two months after my debut here, I was worried. I even missed out on some exciting projects because of the travel restrictions, but I now believe there was something special waiting for me with Bangarraju.”
Padmasoorya has so far only played the antagonist, but he says all that is about to change. “I don’t want to get typecast, nor do I want to continue to play similar kind of characters. I will soon debut as the lead actor in an upcoming film. It’s going to be completely different from what I’ve done so far here. I even get a chance to crack a joke or two! Apart from that, I also play an interesting role in
Merlapaka Gandhi’s upcoming film. 2022 is going to be a great year for me; I also hope I get more lead roles in the future,” he says, signing off.
